Program Details

Dates: Every Tuesday & Thursday morning from 9 am-12 pm, and Every Monday & Thursday evening from 5 pm-8 pm.

Location: Cameron United Methodist Church Loft

Who: This program provides services for adults 17 and older who need their high school equivalency (HSE), English language learners, skill enhancement, and/or a path to career and college readiness skills.

GED (HSE) Classes hosted by St. Joseph Adult Education are currently taking place at Cameron United Methodist Church Every Tuesday & Thursday morning from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., and Every Monday & Thursday evening from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. For more information, please call (816) 629-8101.

ORIENTATION:
St. Joseph AEL orientation includes the following but is not limited to:

AEL information and expectations;
All enrollment paperwork;
Personal inventories to assist you and the teacher;
Assessments to see your current skill levels in reading, math and language;
Information about goals and selecting proper achievable goals;
Success after AEL;
Additional information;

MATERIALS:
Pencils and paper are provided.

MORE ABOUT OUR PROGRAM:

The St. Joseph Adult Education & Literacy (AEL) Program is located at Webster Learning Center (Door 4) at 1211 N. 18th Street in St. Joseph. Phone: 816-671-4020. The AEL program has been a part of the community since 1954 when Principal Ruth Huston began the program as a service to the community.

The AEL program serves Andrew, Buchanan, Clinton, DeKalb, Grundy, Harrison, and Mercer counties. In addition to the main location at Webster, there are several AEL satellite locations. It serves approximately 1100 students per year through HSE (High School Equivalency) or ELL (English Language Learners) courses. At the Webster location, the program has about 200 ELL students who speak 27 different languages and/or dialects.
